Streetscapes

Our firm has been involved in the planning, budgeting, design, and construction phases of streetscape improvement projects in the business districts of many towns and cities located throughout Ohio and Pennsylvania. These projects include street and pedestrian pathway lighting that is carefully selected to provide the desired style (contemporary, period, or ornamental), the desired optics, ease of maintenance, and optimum life cycle costs.

We work closely with the design team and the municipality to help define all needs and the desired appearance. System design often includes systems for control and monitoring of vehicular traffic, holiday lighting and displays, sound systems for socials and community forums, municipal fire call boxes, emergency call stations, accent and facade lighting, and provisions for carnivals, fairs, concerts, car shows, and other public events.

Many of these projects include the conversion of all existing overhead utility services (power, communications, cable, and traffic controls) to underground to dramatically improve the appearance of all businesses and residences located withing the project limits. Our office closely coordinates all aspects of design and construction with the appropriate utility companies and inspection authorities.

Renovation of downtown areas include the design of decorative street lighting systems, undergrounding of overhead power, telephone and cable TV systems, and interfacing with city traffic signalization and fire alarm systems.

Streetscape projects are often designed to be built in two or more phases, with some of the larger projects taking several years to complete. Our project experience positions us to make a significant contribution to the design, construction, performance, and life-cycle costs of such projects.
