Worcester Business Development Corporation, the developers of Worcester’s newest black box theater, wanted to transform the brick-lined innards of the former Telegram & Gazette building into a thespian playground, with a bar, a cafe, art exhibits and rotating small-theater performances. Phase 1 of this project included renovating existing vacant tenant spaces with an acoustically and visually sensitive art gallery and lobby. We worked closely with the architect and owner to disguise mechanical equipment and maintain the integrity of the early 20th century building construction. Phase 2 included renovating the existing building as a theater, using AutoDesk Revit to coordinate all MEP systems to fit within the existing truss webbing. Additionally, basement dressing rooms and restrooms were added, with capacity for future renovations of additional unfinished space.
